hey everyone!!! i hope you all enjoyed you saturday!!! so this week we had monday off woooo :) and then we continued with the two groups. in my group we had already taken notes on the documentary which was pretty much about people studying skeletons and stuff to draw conclusions about evolution and our ancestors. it was pretty interesting but i wasn't a big fan of the music ;) so the thing that my group did second was with the packet. The first part was that we took all the pictures and classified them into groupd, first two groups and then 5. The idea of that was to get our 5 groups to get close to the 5 kingdoms, which are Monera, an example would be single cell bacteria; protista, an example would be an animal cell like a paramecium; fungi, like funguses for example mushrooms; Plantea, which would be plants i guess; and animalia which would be animals with spines i think, like humans!!!
the next thing we had to do was answer the questions on the back and here is what i got for some of them, we also had to research carolus linnaeus and binomial nomenclature:
carolus linnaeus: s swedish naturalist* who proposed the modern system of binomial nominclature.
*naturalist- person who studies something in nature
binomial nomenclature- a system of nomenclature* (they used the word nomenclature in the definition of binomial nomclature?!) in which each spieces is given a unique name that consists of a generic (the genus) and specific (the species) ter.
*nomenclature- sets of names
its like the way they name a species like homo sapien or canis lupis, with the two latin terms. The purpose is for the classification of a species and the smaller groups inside a species. Like giving one name for the entire iguana family and then another different name for marine, land, and desert iguanas.
the sevsn classification groups from largest to smallest are: kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species.
human classification: kingdom: anamalia, phylum: cordata, class: mammalia, order: primates, family: hominidae, genus: homo, species: homo sapiens
the number of chracteristiccs shared by all member of a classification level changes as you prgress from species to kingdom by getting more and more because species is the most specific classification level and there are lots to be divided between and kingdom is the general and inclusive because there are only five to be divided between.
ok the end.
after that we we got one those memorizer things to help us remember the kingdoms. a numonic device or whatever. yeah i know, the spelling was WAY off...i think it starts with k or something but whatever, here it is
King
Philip (or peter if you cant remember that philip starts with p and not f)
Came
Over
For
Good
Spageti (i cant spell that either!!!)
then we got a super wuick lesson on th efood chain which goes like this:
Sun--->plants--->herbivore animals--->carnivore/omnivore animals--->decomposers--->
nutrients get returned to soil--->back to plants
so therefore all that humans can do is destroy plants and then destroyeverything.
food chain- flow of energy in a group
food web- flow of energy throughout a habititat, population, or community
then another wuick lessno on symbiotic relationships:
parasitic: host gets the negative effect and the organism gets the positive effect
mutualistic: both get a positive effect
commensalistic: host gets no effect at all and the organism gets a positive effect.
there is no situation where the host gets positive and the organism gets negative cuz no oragnism woul dput itself in a negative situation on purpose except a human
soooo that is the end of my blog!
i hope you all enjoy your sunday!!!
