science science science!!!

heeeeey everybody! just another thrilling week in science! ^_^ first of all i want to apologize for any messed up information bcuz i forgot to take my notebook home so i am looking on other peoples blogs for information. sooooo this week was mostly about photosynthesis and cell respiration.
id like to talk about our amazing tuesday bcuz tuesday was interesting! we went over our homework questions which were can a plant survive underwater? what do you need to know? and can humans survive without plants, the first one required some thinking but the 2nd one wasnt too difficult, of course we cant ^_^ but wen we got to class Mr. Finley kind of helped us expand on our answers so we had some more reasoning. which brought us to the amazing energy pyramid! at the bottom is plants which get their energy from the sun, then those who eat plants, then those who eat those who eat plants, then then those who eat animals and plants. and at each level 10% of energy is transfered, so say the plant, we'll make it a flower, absorbs 20,000 joules(measurement of energy) of energy from the sun, then a squirrel eats the flower, (yes i am aware that squirells dont usually eat flowers) so the squirell gets 10% of the flowers energy, so now the squirell has 2,000 joules of energy. but, not 4 long bcuz the squirell gets eaten by a hawk :( so now the hawk has 10% of the squirells energy so he has 200 joules of energy. then, for some reason a person eats the hawk (sorry, its just really hard to find a situation that will actually make sense) so the person gets 10% of that which is 20 joules of energy. So, does a person get their energy from the sun??? yes. which was another question we discussed in science this week. ^_^ ok. something else we learned was that cell respiration and photosynthesis are different even though they use the same chemicals, bcuz the reactants and products are reversed. we learned about different chemicals you may find in water, 2 of which were oxygen and CO2. Another interesting thing we did was when the sub was here and we had that worksheet. maggie and I found it kind of confusing but eventually got it with some help from Finley the next day. i thought it was fun figuring out what everything went together with. i did think it was kind of weird though how A went on T but U went on A. The other pair was C and G. im pretty sure thats how everything went together. and friday we had the quiz that was harder then i expected! but i plan to correct it so that should help. im also pretty sure that almost everyone else had a tough time with it too, so at least i wont be the only one correcting it :) i promise to do better for you guys with my next post! see you all monday! thanx for reading! bi bi!
